Sometimes God gives you something so dear to take care of. He hands you a precious gift to rise in honor of Him. I have been given a special task. I am not worthy, or even capable, but He thinks I am. He has chosen me and set me apart for His special project. “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9).
The Calling I attended a Police Wife Conference in Fort Worth, TX. I trekked from California with excitement to meet the ladies from two wonderful organizations who faithfully put on LEO wives conferences throughout Texas. These women are strong, fearless, and love the law enforcement community. I loved what I had seen, and knew that the special task that God gave me lined up with what I saw, heard, and felt that weekend in Texas. My calling was confirmed that I was to hold the very first Peace Officer Wives Conference in California.
Offer Accepted I accepted His offer, with arms wide open, and knew more than ever I needed to be clear minded and to remain faithful in prayer. The more I moved forward in this special task, the more I realized that this was not for my gratification but for His. He had a special way of doing things, so forget all my negotiating skills and presentations. God from the beginning has provided everything I needed for this task. Don’t get me wrong, there were times I was worried, doubtful and sad. I wanted things to play out a certain way, but God had a different plan. Everything has been on His timing, not mine. So all I could do was resort back to prayer. I started to pray, “Ok God, this was your idea not mine, please come forward with . . . ” He brought forward the people, an organization, the money, and the help; just everything that I needed to make the conference move forward with His plan. “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” (Matthew 6:6).
Cupped With Protection Now that things were on their way, I realized that this precious task was special and needed to be cupped with protection. I felt that this was given to me to take care of and to be cautious with those who wanted to be involved. So I shared this calling with those who were truly interested and placed concerned. I also shared with those who could stand beside me in prayer. As a result, I needed to make sure that those involved were believers of our great God and sought Him in all that they do. “I set out during the night with a few others. I had not told anyone what my God had put in my heart to do for Jerusalem” (Nehemiah 2:12).
Awakening in My Heart This task has been in the making, this all did not happen overnight. Let’s just say that at the beginning of the New Year of 2017, I prayed for a revival and awakening in my heart. I also prayed for God to use me and transform me. I wanted to be on fire with His love, and passion. Moreover, I had asked myself, “Have I lost the sight of my love, and my God?” I was given a Bible verse that had started this journey with the Lord. I knew that I needed to be awakened like Lazarus, called from the dead. If this man could be revived from the dead when Jesus prayed for him, I knew that my heart could be revived again to hunger for the Lord so desperately. “When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out!’ The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, ‘Take off the grave clothes and let him go’” (John 11:43-44).
Cherish the Task If you have been given something to care for, cherish it. As it was placed upon you to protect and nurture. God gives us tasks, some small and some large. I am not perfect and at times I feel unqualified to do my special assignment. Yet I know that with God by my side, I am capable and competent. I have always said that following the Lord is like reading a very good book. You go through a roller coaster of emotions and you never know what the next page will hold. God is good, and he wants the best for us. He loves us just the way we are. What we lack, He will provide in us. Just know that whenever He is involved in your life, it will be a blessing. I am excited to hold the conference, and with God anything possible. “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to His service” (1 Timothy 1:12).
Living in Sync Live boldly, fiercely, and know that even at times when you are not in sync with God, He is patiently waiting for you to return. We were designed to live freely and to accept ourselves as we were created. So return to your first love, He is waiting to revive you. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9
